Digital whiz kids visit Belsimpel
On Saturday, 5 October, the average age at our headquarters dropped significantly! That day, we hosted Zpannend Zernike—a weekend initiative by the University of Groningen, UMCG, and Hanze University of Applied Sciences. During this event, children get the chance to explore the world of science and technology.
Learn and play with Belsimpel & Fairphone
At the Belsimpel stand, children could take phones apart and reassemble them, learning all about the different components and where they come from. Through a quiz, they discovered more about how phones are made and the materials used. To make this possible, we partnered with Fairphone.
An educational day
Belsimpel colleagues Ilja and Danne were on hand to answer all questions and guide visitors on their journey through the fascinating world of smartphones. The enthusiasm from visitors—ranging from curious children to interested adults—was palpable. The session highlighted the importance of not only understanding what a smartphone can do, but also how and under what conditions it is made.
“It was fantastic to see so much interest in the technology behind smartphones and the ethical challenges involved,” said Ilja. “We hope we’ve inspired visitors to think more consciously about their own technology use.”
Danne added: “Zpannend Zernike is a wonderful event to engage people in scientific and technological developments in a playful and accessible way. We’re glad that, with Belsimpel, we could contribute to this educational adventure.”
