Since Belsimpel was founded in 2006, we’ve seen how smart technology helps customers make the right choices. Since then, we’ve worked daily on our platform to make telecom accessible and simple for everyone, with a fair and transparent customer experience.
Our ambition is to make telecom accessible worldwide. That’s why we not only provide our customers with clear options but also help telecom providers deliver an excellent customer experience through our platform. This ensures that everyone can participate more easily in the digital world.
Read on to see how we’re doing our part, not just for our customers, to make the digital world more accessible.
Access to the digital world is now crucial for full participation in society. Whether it’s booking an appointment to renew your passport, applying for a job, or making a bank transfer—almost everything is done digitally. Those without access to digital tools not only miss out on opportunities but may also struggle with basic tasks that many take for granted.
That’s why we proudly support Close the Gap, an international organisation dedicated to equal digital opportunities. Close the Gap collects decommissioned but functional IT equipment, such as laptops, tablets, and desktops, from companies and individuals. This equipment is then refurbished and provided to vulnerable groups in developing countries and communities with limited access to technology.
In addition, every six months we donate a number of our returned devices to Close the Gap.
Close the Gap works with local partners to ensure this equipment reaches the right places, where it can make a real impact. In doing so, Close the Gap not only improves access to technology but also contributes to education, employment, and personal development.
Colleague Melissa shares: “In recent years, I’ve become more conscious about how I live and wanted to do my part. When I got a new phone, I was looking for a good purpose for my old one. That’s when I saw the Close the Gap collection box at work and thought, ‘Perfect!’ It’s great to make someone else happy with it.”
During Digital Participation Week, Belsimpel participated in a number of walk-in consultation sessions organized by Forum Groningen that focused on digital skills. Belsimpel staff were on hand to assist older adults who were considering purchasing a device. The goal was not to sell phones, but to help older adults with their questions so they could make an informed decision based on our advice.
During Zpannend Zernike, an initiative by the University of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences, children from the region visited our office to explore the technology behind digital devices.
