Renovated Computer Lab for Skills Link Uganda with Support from Belsimpel | Gomibo

29 August 2025

Gomibo continues to commit to digital impact. Last year, the company made a Christmas donation to Close the Gap, a non-profit organization that gives second-hand ICT equipment a new life in projects worldwide. With this contribution, the project ‘Equipping Youth for Success’ by Skills Link Uganda was supported. As a result, a fully renovated computer lab was realized in Masajja, a neighborhood in Uganda, which is now in full use.

From outdated resources to a digital future

Since 2019, Skills Link Uganda has been training students in Masajja in basic computer skills. These include working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), online research, digital literacy, touch typing, web design, photo editing, and computer maintenance. The computers they used for this were very outdated, while well-functioning equipment is essential for this training. Replacing them proved to be a major challenge due to the high costs of new equipment in Uganda.

Thanks to Gomibo’s financial donation, Skills Link Uganda was able to purchase new ICT resources, such as desktop sets, laptops, a multifunction printer, and cabling. The equipment is now in use in a fully renovated computer lab, which is part of the training center in Masajja. In this center, young people and women are trained in areas such as ICT, entrepreneurship, hairdressing, and baking.

“These computers are not just machines; they are a lifeline to opportunities. They give our young people the digital skills to find work, build confidence, and shape their future.”
– Godfrey, Director, Skills Link Uganda

Access to technology for everyone in the community

The training center is the only place in the region with a well-equipped computer room. As a result, it not only attracts its own students but also pupils from nearby schools and adults from the neighborhood who, for example, want to create a CV or access government services online. Currently, about 70 to 80 young people, pupils, and adults per week use the renovated computer lab.

Many of the users come from families where access to technology is far from guaranteed. The new resources help them to pursue better education and acquire digital skills, giving them a stronger position in an increasingly digital world.

With this contribution, Gomibo is making a tangible impact on promoting equal digital opportunities. This closely aligns with the mission: Giving people easy access to the digital world.
