Why did you choose the Management Traineeship?
“I had already been working at Belsimpel for a while: Six years ago, after studying abroad for half a year, I got a part-time job at Belsimpel. During my Master’s in Change Management, I started looking for my next step. Many of my fellow students went into consultancy after the program. Personally, I didn’t just want to advise—I wanted to experience what it’s really like to implement change. I was also still figuring out what gave me energy. I knew I liked to take the lead and wanted to learn how to get better at that. The Management Traineeship offered the perfect opportunity!”
What makes working at Belsimpel so enjoyable?
“What I love most about Belsimpel is the drive that’s in the air—everyone’s genuinely motivated to improve things together, every single day. On top of that, the level of responsibility and the opportunities you get early on are pretty unique, and I really enjoy that. And last (but definitely not least): my colleagues! I honestly have the best teammates in all of Groningen ;)”
What do you learn as a Management Trainee?
“That really depends on where you are in the traineeship. At the start, you learn the basics of leadership—like communication skills, how to handle things like illness, absenteeism, and contract renewals, but also how to get the best out of your team. Later on, you learn to deal with more complex HR cases.”
What moment stuck with you the most?
“The fact that you’re given the chance to gain real leadership experience at such a young age, fresh out of university. And the fact that you go through the traineeship with a group of peers who are around the same age: you quickly form strong bonds, so you’re not just colleagues – you become friends too!
What does your career path look like after the traineeship?
“After completing the traineeship, I moved into a leadership role: I became the team lead for the Partner Marketing Team. I’m now part of the People & Organization domain, where I combine marketing responsibilities with being the go-to person for our content colleagues when it comes to HR matters!”
